Shellac Manicure vs. Gel vs. Acrylic — What's the Difference?

This is one of the most common questions I get, so let me break it down:

Shellac is a specific brand by CND — it's a hybrid formula, part regular polish, part gel. It soaks off easily with acetone-soaked foils in about 10–15 minutes and causes minimal damage to the natural nail when removed properly. Most shellac manicures last 2–3 weeks without chipping. It's the go-to for clients who want durability but still care about their nail health.

Gel nails come in two forms: gel polish (similar to shellac — painted onto the natural nail and cured under UV) and gel extensions (which use a builder gel to extend the length of the nail). The gel polish option is essentially the same as shellac in terms of wear and removal.

Acrylic nails are a mix of liquid monomer and powder polymer that hardens when exposed to air. They're stronger and better for clients who want significant length, but they're thicker on the nail and removal requires either soaking or filing. They can be harder on the natural nail over time. We currently offer gel tips rather than traditional acrylics — lighter, more flexible, and kinder to your nails.

Our recommendation: If you want a natural-nail-friendly option that lasts and looks polished, shellac manicure is your best bet. If you want length, gel tips are the way to go.

The Spa Pedicure Experience

Our spa pedicure is genuinely a treat. Most pedicures stop at nail shaping and a quick massage — ours goes further. We start with a warm foot soak to soften everything up, then work through proper nail shaping, cuticle care, and a callus treatment using a foot file (not a blade — safer and just as effective). Then comes the part clients love: a sugar scrub exfoliation on your feet and calves, a nourishing mask, hot towel wrap, and an extended massage with lotion. Finished with your choice of polish. It's about 60 minutes and genuinely worth it, especially if you're on your feet all day.

A Nail Appointment Without the Crowd

This is not a walk-in nail bar with six chairs in a row. It is a women only spa in Brampton that books one client at a time, so your manicure or pedicure happens in a quiet, private room.

Medical Pedicure in Brampton

A medical pedicure — sometimes called a medi-pedi — is a pedicure judged on the health of the foot rather than the colour on the nail. The focus is the condition of the nail plate and the nail bed, callus and hard skin, the cuticle line, and the general state of the skin on the foot. Polish is optional and comes last, if at all.

It is the right booking if your nails have thickened or discoloured, if callus keeps rebuilding no matter how often you file it, if your cuticles are chronically ragged, or if standard salon pedicures leave your feet sore. It is also what to book when you simply want the work done carefully, with properly sterilised tools, rather than quickly.

What this is not. Warda is a licensed medical aesthetician, not a physician or a chiropodist. We do not perform medical or surgical procedures on the foot — no ingrown toenail surgery, no wart removal, no diabetic wound care, no prescriptions. What we provide is skilled, health-focused nail and foot care that improves the condition of the nail and skin. If something needs a chiropodist or a doctor, we will tell you and stop there.
