Waxing Aftercare: Do's and Don'ts
Waxing is a fantastic way to achieve long-lasting, smooth skin — but the results depend heavily on how you treat your skin afterward. Follow these essential do's and don'ts to prevent irritation and keep ingrown hairs at bay.
The Don'ts — First 24 to 48 Hours
Your skin needs time to recover immediately after waxing. Avoid the following for the first 24–48 hours:
- Hot showers or baths — Stick to lukewarm water. Heat irritates freshly waxed, open follicles.
- The gym or sauna — Sweat carries bacteria that can easily enter open follicles and cause breakouts.
- Tight clothing — Friction from tight leggings or jeans can cause irritation and trap hairs as they grow back.
- Direct sunlight on waxed areas — Freshly waxed skin is highly prone to sunburn and hyperpigmentation.
- Scented lotions or products — Fragrance can irritate sensitized skin; wait until things calm down.
The Do's — Ongoing Maintenance
What you do between appointments matters just as much as the wax itself:
- Moisturize daily — Use a lightweight, fragrance-free lotion to keep skin soft. Dry skin makes it harder for new hairs to push through, leading to ingrowns.
- Exfoliate regularly — Wait 48 hours, then begin gently exfoliating 2–3 times a week. This clears dead skin cells and keeps follicles open.
- Stick to a schedule — Book your appointments every 4–6 weeks for the best results, and resist the urge to shave in between. Shaving changes the hair texture and makes your next wax less effective.
